This Sunday, join Leland and Redwood Empire Trout Unlimited for fly fishing demonstrations at Cloverdale River Park. This free event is open to all, but is geared toward beginning fly casters. Leland Outfitters has provided Bay Area anglers with gear and education since 1985 and now makes it home in Sonoma. Leland’s teachers have a proven approach that can have even youngsters casting efficient loops of fly line in no time. There will be opportunities to learn about and try gear and to practice casting. The focus of the event is on education, not getting into the river to catch fish.
This event is part of July's Russian River Festival, a new promotion highlighting the many ways to enjoy and discover the Russian River in the summer. Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters is among the Festival sponsors. Go to SonomaCountyParks.org for a full schedule of River Festival events.
Cloverdale River Park is on the Russian River at 31820 McCray Road (directions in the link below). The park features a boat launch for kayaks, canoes and drift boats, a fully accessible riparian trail, and picnic sites with barbecues. Parking is $7 or free for Regional Parks members.
