Best steelheading outfits 6/13/2013 11:18 pm My steelhead beginning was pretty simple and I was not knowledgeable about the best steelheading outfits. All I knew was that a spey rod could save me from fatigue even if I am required to go for 1000 casts. Stealheading, spey casting, and big waters go very well together. I was excited about such “big things”, but as I said, my beginning was ordinary because I did not get results! I had invested in a quality spey rod, but was not aware of the contribution that a reel can have on the overall casting. It was Sam, an experienced steelheader, who introduced me to the Vintage Brass Steelhead Spey reel. After using a premium quality spey reel for the first time, I realized that big things come in small package. With a stupendous click-pawl drag, the reel really worked and allowed me to taste success for the first time. The combined action of the reel and the rod helped me to cover the maximum possible water and to my surprise, I found that I could gain a much better control over the line. And this is exactly what you need to be an expert steelheader.
Fly fishing is fast and furious 6/13/2013 11:16 pm For me, fly fishing is “fast and furious”. I love to fly fish in fast flowing streams even though it means that it is the current which is going to control the line and the flies. But I have learnt how I can use my spey rod to reach the far-off spots. Thanks to the Vintage Brass Steelhead Fly Reel for playing an important role in contributing to the overall rod action. It is rightfully designed to meet the requirements of spey casting techniques. It has a bigger capacity for a spey rod and it can wonderfully balance the two-handed rod. The reel works best with lines that are sized between 2 and 4 and it comes with a click-pawl drag that performs with maximum effectiveness. This reel is a must-have for my steelheading tours because… after all, steelhead fishing is all about line control.
Steelhead snob & spey reel 6/13/2013 11:13 pm I consider myself as a steelhead snob and I don’t like making compromises on the purchase of quality fly fishing equipments. So paying $450 for a spey reel was not at all a concern for me. What I wanted was a grand experience! I took some time to get adapted to the use of the new reel and after that, there was no looking back! The reel worked very well as it allowed me to apply my spey casting techniques with greater accuracy and I could get my dry flies to spots where I was most likely to find some bright winter run steelhead. Now, with spring approaching, I am getting ready to hook some wild steelheads in one of the coastal rivers of my region. I am impressed with the drag this reel provides and I am waiting to see how the wild steelheads respond to the dries. It’s a real thrill to watch those classic jumps!
Experienced fly fisherman 6/13/2013 11:10 pm I have been in the fly fishing sport for over 10 years and today, I take pride to consider myself as an experienced fly fisherman who knows how to recognize and differentiate between good and poor quality outfits. I saw one of my friends using the vintage spey reel and I could easily relate its quality to its ultra-sophisticated look, form, and feel. When I used it myself, I could experience the actual performance it delivered. The quick release spool supported rod action and the externally adjustable click-pawl drag really worked well to prevent line overrun. I bought one for myself and now, this is the one and only reel which I am using in all of my steelheading ventures. I know how to trick a steelhead and I have succeeded several times, but this reel really helps to leverage the spey action with its functionality.
Vintage Brass steelhead Spey Reel 6/13/2013 11:06 pm Nothing gives me more joy than playing the role of a classic steelheader and nothing can be as challenging as finding a quality reel that would allow me to pamper my hobby with some really great experiences. I needed a spey reel that, I thought, should be an ideal combination of form and functionality and I am pleased to have found one at the Leland Fly Shop. The Vintage Brass Steelhead Spey Reel has an excellent drag, it has a bigger capacity for a spey rod and it can balance the longer rod very well. I have come across a few companies which used marketing gimmicks to sell normal reels as “spey” reels, but this time I made a sensible investment on a real spey reel that delivers incredible performance.
Best Classic Styled Reel 4/22/2013 12:21 pm I love classically styled reels! That being said this reel merges the design of a few of my favorites. I am baffled why enyone would every use anything other than a click and pawl for trout.
