The Leland Classic Trout Fly Reel

Your grandfather was right. When it comes to fly  fishing for trout, you certainly don't need a high-tech, large-arbor, sealed-drag, performance fly reel.

That's exactly why we designed our Leland Classic Trout Fly Reel. It's our vision of what a trout fly reel should be. It's just the right weight and size to balance your favorite trout rod and hold your best fly line.

It's simple in design and function and requires little to no maintenance. It provides enough adjustable resistance to slow down a larger trout,  yet still smoothly pays out your fly line, protecting your lightest tippet.

This particular fly reel is perfect for any five our six weight fly rod that begs a more traditional fly reel. Our classic porting pattern and anodized finish is a nod to the past's more-basic designs. Acoustically, this fly reel sings with celebration when your earned fish runs downstream.

Of course, our fly reel is fully-machined from aircraft aluminum and then Teflon-anodized for a long life of beauty. However, that kinda technical talk bores us. It's probably best to say that your fly fishing grandfather would approve of our work, as well as our reel's solid brass accents.

This gem of a fly reel comes encased in  a brass-zippered, leather reel pouch for post fishing protection and admiration.

    Classic Trout Reel

Thank you Burke for your quick response, wow! Hands down the components you have offered with this reel are of the best quality. I can't seem to find a bad review for these reels. I see that Red Truck is affiliated with Leland. ( which I have bought product before from - actually just ordered something else today ) To be honest, steelhead is a new game for me. I live in Alberta, Canada and mostly do Trout fishing. I'm wanting to get into steelhead fishing, but was always afraid of the size of gear needed. (sometimes told to use nothing less then 8 weight) Hence my hesitation. Well thank you again for the info. Take care, TJ

    a fish earned

This trout season began with a big blast of great conditions and I was highly excited to show off my casting skills from a winter of practice. With the new Classic Trout fly reel that I bought from the Leland Fly Shop my Reel looked as good as the cast. Normally, I use a five-weight fly rod to win a big trout game and I found the Leland classic trout fly reel to go very well my Sage LL that I have been using for ten years. This reel is made up of brass and this is another reason why I chose to buy it, it matches well will the weathered nickel silver reel seat of my LL. When you pay for quality, you won’t have to repent later. The first time I used the reel, I was impressed by the reel’s capacity to handle big fish by palming the reel. What matters at the end of the day is a story which you can share with others with pleasure and satisfaction. The guys at Leland told me this is called a “fished earned.”

When I saw this reel for the first time, I fell for its looks. The metallic tone and the brass construction lured me and I soon found myself experimenting with a new reel. During these times, I realized that this reel was the perfect combination of form and functionality. It could balance my 6-weight fly rod as well as the weight-forward floating lines very well and with the narrow spool I never had to worry about line pilling up on one side when reeling in a monster! I have a collection of bamboo, graphite, and fiberglass fly rods of the same weight and I am happy that this reel can go well with all of these outfits. The new reel works fine at all events- whether it is a fun moment at a small trout stream in my locality or a competitive scenario in which I need to prove my “hook-a-brook” skills.

    Top Reel

If someone asks me to name the top 5 trout fly reels, I would make it a point to refer to the Leland classic trout fly reel as one of my most favorite choices for Trout fishing. It is not too much and not too little. The perfect balance of form and function. This reel weighs only 4.9 oz. and there will not be any occasion in which you would find your five or six-weight rod to go out of balance. The reel’s drag system works smooth and allows me to land that big fish while casting Dark Cahill, Black Fur Ant, Adams and other dries under overhanging branches of my local stream. What is more interesting is that this reel can be hung on, as a complement, to bamboo, fiberglass, and the modern-day graphite rods. This reel combines the features of the older reels with that of the modern-day upgrades, so you can experience the classic appeal of the reels action in your contemporary fishing techniques.

    My Sweetness

I love this reel! The sound alone is worth it!

    Great Fly Reel

what initially attracted me to this reel was it's looks. After my trip Yosmite National Park this reel had earned its place as my favorite. We fished Lyell Fork and it's smooth light drag protected light tippet perfectly. The sound alone reminds me of fly fishing. Art
