The Leland Classic Trout Fly Reel
Wow there are a lot of fly reels on the
market today. Some from big brand names, others more obscure, but one
thing is for sure...performance seems to be the focus. Don't get us
wrong, a performance fly reel makes sense in saltwater, where the
fast fish swim and the salt is well...salty. But when it comes to fly
fishing for trout, you certainly don't need all that technology and
performance. We thought it was time to get back to the proven basics
in fly tackle.
That's exactly why we designed our
Leland Classic Trout Fly Reel. It's our vision of what a trout fly
reel should be. Although some might argue the point, this beautiful
fly reel does have a drag system. It's called a click and pawl drag.
It's been around pretty much forever and is very proven. It's simple
in design and function and requires little to no maintenance. It
provides enough adjustable resistance to slow down a larger trout,
yet still smoothly pays out your fly line, protecting your lightest
This particular fly reel is perfect for
any five our six weight fly rod that begs a more traditional fly
reel. Our classic porting pattern and anodized finish is a nod to the
past's more basic designs. Still it's worthy of pride when mounted to
your favorite trout fly rod. Acoustically, this fly reel sings with
celebration when your earned fish runs downstream.
Our Leland Classic Trout Fly Reel has
ample capacity to store your favorite fly line and backing. If you
don't have a favored line, we'd recommend to you our Leland “Pliny”
fly line. It's the best we've ever cast and fished...and hey, we
For those that must know, our fly reel
is fully-machined from solid bar-stock aircraft aluminum and then
Teflon anodized for a long life of beauty. However, that kinda
technical talk bores us. It's probably best to say that your fly
fishing grandfather would approve of our work, as well as our reel's solid brass accents.
This gem of a fly reel comes encased in
a brass-zippered, leather reel pouch for post fishing protection and
admiration. Most of our Leland Rod Company fly rods come rigged with
this great reel. However, you may find a home for it on a your
cherished bamboo or glass rod. We'd support that.
Although it's true that a trout fly
reel is pretty much a place to store your fly line, we've found that
storing your line on our Leland Classic Trout Fly Reel will result in
a more enjoyable experience on the water. And isn't that what it's
all about after all?
