Fish Camp Member Review:

Thought I would post a short review of the Red Truck Glass rod. I have had it for a few weeks now and have had a good chance to put it through it's paces.

When I first saw them for sale with Leland Fly Fishers, I wasn't ready to pull the trigger with them costing four hundred, and not being able to really find any info on them (here's that info). Well, luckily, one came up on a local secondary market and I grabbed it.

They only sell one glass rod and it is a 7.5 foot 4wt in 3 pieces. It is very well appointed. The blank is a transluscent tan/bamboo/light brown/caramel? (not sure what to call the color, but I really like it.) It has white solid glass spigots. Uplocking nickel hardware over a really nice piece of wood that blends well with the blank. It comes in a great yellow aluminum tube with black top and bottom, and a divided sock. Inside the cap for the tube is what they call the Brews-key, which is a bottle opener. Love this idea.

But the great thing is this rod. It is quick for glass, but VERY smooth. The tip has a beautiful flex and progresses into the butt, which is pretty slender for glass, but still has lots of reserve power. I am able to cast two feet of line with lots of feel with the tip and then haul out sixty feet as it gets into the butt power. It's real beauty though is found in what you would want for this configuration, at about fifteen to twenty five feet of line. It just seems to cast itself.

The grip on this is one I was really hesitant about (all those guys smack talk Leland grip shape). Not being able to give it a try before buying, I was not liking the look of the grip, but once I got it into my hand, I think it might be one of my favorites. It just positions everything so naturally.

Overall, I really like this rod. I just wish they would come out with some other configurations. I would love to have an eight foot five weight in this series.

Will post some photos when I get some taken. . .
