Designed from the ground up to be the best casting trout fly fishing outfit you've ever encountered.  Not only is our eight-foot, five-weight Sonoma Trout rod the very same rod we use in all our casting instruction, it's also one of our favorite trout fly rods, too. Correctly balanced and efficient at transferring your casting energy into the fly line, our two-piece, eight-foot, five-weight will make you smile on every cast, while you land your fly with an accurate and subtle presentation. Adorned with our famous Leland grip, your hand will feel right at home on your very first cast. Dial in your loop, while practicing on the grass, then take this gem of a fly rod to the hills and cast dry flies to wild trout in smaller streams.  Life is good.

This outfit also includes our Leland Pliny fly line. The name you ask? Pliney The Elder is simply the best beer you've ever tasted and it's made just up the road from our ranch in Sonoma. Good luck finding the beer by the way...darn near impossible. Just like the beer, our fly line is the best...best casting, best fishing fly line on the planet, making efficient casting and fish catching easier. We sell this line for $59 and we include it in this outfit.

    beginner's opinion

So I talked to the guys at Leland about the best rod for a beginner because I want to get into the sport. They said this rod is what they use to teach. Plus you can't beat the price. Burk actually took the time to give me some casting tips when I went to their shop to buy it. I don't know all that much yet butthis rod feels good. Thanks Burk.
