When you finally book that epic fishing trip to test your skills against the Silver King, you better pack the right gear...as everything will be tested.  Important not to overlook is packing your casting skills.  Although the tarpon is an aggressive predator, their speed on the flats is deceiving and your cast must be right on the mark to be rewarded with an "eat."  Controlled distance, accuracy and even a subtle presentation is required.  Marrying your casting skills with a well-balanced, true-tracking and efficient casting fly rod is a must.  This is exactly why Leland Rod Co. offers the Florida Keys Tarpon fly rod.  Designed for the demanding casts that tarpon fishing requires, you'll cast all day without fatigue and might be rewarded with a catch of a life time.  Of course our Tarpon fly rod is built with saltwater safe materials and components and is finished with the attention to detail that few rods today embody.  Now you have no excuse not to cast well.

A Pro's Opinion 4/2/2014 5:14 pm On the down low, I actually work in the industry and get deals on just about any brand of fly rod I want. I don't/CAN'T own this fly rod due to politics, but I wanted to try it on my last trip to the Keys (as in Florida). I had to hide this rod the first few days of the trip (secret spy stuff), but on the third day I was good to go. I rigged up the Leland Tarpon fly rod and gave it a solid work out. Damn, it was as good as I had heard. As good or better than anthing I'd cast and fished. It's scary (from a guide's perspective) that some guys out in California can design a great casting and catching Tarpon fly rod that rivals (or surpasses) anthing the big brands can offer. As for cool points, this rod walks tall with great colors, thread work and components. I give this tarpon fly rod from Leland, two "secret" thumbs up. Keep it up boys. See you in May!
Silver King 3/6/2014 12:40 pm Chasing the silver king has a joy of its own. Getting the fly to the mark at the right time and right place is very important. It is here that I usually faced problems. Many rods fail to make the right cast, once the pressure is on. When I went to the Leland store with this problem, the staff showed me Florida Keys Tarpon Rod, 12wt. The line is awesome. The weight makes it easier to cast heavy flies and still give stability. The taper is extended which provided solid hook ups. Now whenever I go tarpon hunting I focus on the fish and not the gear. Thanks a lot Leland for coming up with such a good package, also I really appreciate the staff you guys have – they are one of the best I have interacted with.
Like My T&T 12/18/2013 11:22 am Fly Fishing is my one vice. Every year my holiday calendar is fixed for it. Tarpons, Permit and Steelhead are my favorite quarry. Most of the outfits had either one or both of these problems, that is, either they break during the fight or are incapable of being able to be cast all day. But the Leland Tarpon Rod is an ideal solution to both these problems. It is efficient like my old T&T, but does not break like it. I am very happy with this product and wondering why I didn’t buy it earlier. Anyways it’s better late than never. This rod will surely be appreciated by serious fly anglers.
